I just finished The Spear and really enjoyed it/found it an excellent Lenten read (only one real quibble with it). And the characterization of the biblical characters in both that and The Man Born to Be King is excellent-in both I especially found the handling of Judas to be so well done and helpful for me to consider. Murder Must Advertise is my favorite of the Wimsey mysteries for sure after finally having read all of them. Busman’s Honeymoon would be up there too. And the children and scissors-Andrew and I were literally just talking about this issue, I don’t know what primal urge cutting things with scissors satisfies but it is a strong one. I’m just waiting for the impromptu haircut to happen

I am curious what your quibble is with The Spear. I am not done yet so I guess I don’t want to know if it’s a spoiler…I LOVE Busman’s Honeymoon. I think we talked about this, but the beginning is pure comedy gold!

Oh the scissors. I keep confiscating them….but there are always more!

I didn’t love a particular scene with a couple-veered into the forced rather than romantic/when a woman says no she secretly means yes. Outside of that, I loved the book, and the male character, at least, was clearly portrayed as someone in need of conversation/change. And yes we did-it’s fabulous. I read a bunch of it out loud to Andrew. And always more for sure
