This was an excellent discussion. I also relied on Jane Austen audiobooks to help me nap/sleep during pregnancy-I had awful RLS/sleep anxiety with Elinor and Jane Austen (and later Narnia) got me through that. And related to Jane Austen, I think that Lizzie Bennet is an excellent example of the same sort of pride that Othello has. She decides upon a narrative about Mr. Darcy (Desdemona) based upon the insinuations of Mr. Wickham (Iago) who “looks” honest/trustworthy, and ignores all the signs to the contrary/inconsistencies that point to Wickham’s story being false. And it results in a total rejection of Mr. Darcy and his love for her, as Othello ultimately rejects Desdemona’s love. But because Pride and Prejudice is a Comedy-they all get second chances and the villain/his lies are revealed in time.

Oh what a great connection! I had thought about Pride and Prejudice being like Much Ado About Nothing before, but I never connected it with Othello! Thank God it is a comedy!
