Ah, ladies! You are single-handedly adding a whole stack to my TBR stack (and I don't hate it!).
I'm planning on reading the Moonstone, Merchant of Venice, and several others from this podcast this year. First, I'm going to finish Kristin Lavransdatter (audio) and Victorian Fairy tales anthology. I'm also excited to teach Alice in Wonderland to my students this spring.
Favorites from this year: I did get to re-read Jane Eyre and have to agree that it is such an excellent work of literature (that I didn't appreciate as much in my early twenties). Also, I basically read the entire Emma M. Lion series a few weeks over the summer and highly recommend them. My daughter and I read Ballet Shoes (Noel Streatfeild) together which was a great book for us to share. Reading several of Elizabeth Goudge's novels was also a reading highlight.
This is a perfect place to learn about her writing! https://elizabethgoudgebookclub.substack.com. My favorite (and recommendation) is "Little White Horse"; as a fairy tales fan, this book surprised me in all the best ways with its layers of fantasy, religion, and fairy tale.
I think that’s the book I first heard about by Goudge (from Sarah Clarkson I think), but I still haven’t gotten around to reading her. She is an author I’d really like to get to!
Yes, yes, and yes on including Wendell Berry works in your book club plans! Jayber Crow and The Memory of Old Jack are great places to start your Berry discussions (you and your literary friends will not regret it). Enjoy!
We did Jayber Crow in November and we all loved it. Our podcast discussion of that with Michael Lillianthal was also really good! We did Hannah Coulter a few years back and that will continue to be one of my favorite books. I can’t wait to get to read Memory of Old Jack!

Yay! So glad to have you reading along with us :)
I haven’t ever read Elizabeth Goudge yet but people have often recommended her! Where do you think is the best place for a newbie to start with her?

Thanks for your response. I found your December 2 podcast episode and can’t wait to listen!
I’d love to hear what you think!
Thanks for recommending your podcast. I enjoyed the discussion and now need to brush up on my Dante
Yes! I am still slowly reading Inferno, but I fully recommend and am excited to start Purgatorio soon!
