Oooh I read both for the first time last year and as much as I loved The Woman in White, I thought the Moonstone beat it by a mile! Curious to see if others agree ☺️
Oh yeah I’ll totally read it again. I did read The Moonstone first and then went right into TWIW and they’re def different feels so maybe that’s why I was a teeny bit less enthused.
My take is: The Woman in White wins for spooky vibes which you know I love, BUT the Moonstone has the better characters and mystery so it just stuck with me more.
Okay this helps! Maybe I'll do the Woman in White in October/November before we do the Moonstone in April.
I sometimes think that if I read two books by the same author back to back it does a disservice to them in my memory (or at least one). Usually the reason I would try to read the same author back to back is because I LOVED the first book and I basically just want to experience that book again, so then whatever the second book is ends up being disappointing.
It is actually a think that my husband knows well about me. If I say, "I'm going to read another book by this author right away" he will say, "no, you know you never like that"
Oh totally, I’m the same way! The only exception for me may be Jane Austen…reading one makes me want to read all the others right away and usually sends me down the rabbit hole.
Oooo I would like to read The Woman in White sometime! I have so much fun reading the Moonstone for the first time that I would like to have that experience again!
It’s very fun because it has so many of the gothic tropes, and it’s so melodramatic, but also it’s asking really interesting questions about women’s legal position/general standing in Victorian society. Also it’s an epistolary novel which I am always a fan of
the Moonstone is epistolary too! the variety of voices adds to the story obviously, but it also makes it way funnier which was one of my favorite components
I do remember it being especially funny! What is the butler's name? I'm regretting not naming our new Roomba after him (our Roomba is Bunter though, which I'm also proud of)
I read The Woman in White not that long ago and have The Moonstone waiting on my shelf, so this is very providential

Would you read The Woman in White again? Am I just setting myself up for disappointment after The Moonstone? Which did you read first?
I have a lot of questions...

Well Jane Austen can do not wrong! Audiobooks may be a slight exception for me...I'd have to think about it more!

That makes me even more excited!

Bettridge! so good. and the Audible version, especially his voice, is perfect
Oh maybe I will listen to some of it this time!
Maybe that’ll be one of my Halloween reads this year! I’m very into reading seasonally!
That’s what I did the first go around!
It is going on my list of books to aquire!
